Dr. Pamela May grew up in Winnipeg, Canada, (also known as “Winterpeg”). She has an Honours Biological Science degree from the University of Guelph, and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. Upon graduation, Dr. May began her career at South Ridge Veterinary Hospital until 2002. She then returned to Canada and continued to practice in Oakville, Ontario for 10 years. While in Canada, Dr. May pursued her growing interest in Chinese Veterinary Medicine and obtained her Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture in 2005 from the Chi Institute of Gainsville, FL.
Since 2012, Dr. May, has been back in her adopted state of North Carolina and is happy to be working again at South Ridge Veterinary Hospital. She continues to develop her Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine practice and is actively working toward more Certifications in herbal medicine and food therapy to meet increased client interest and the demand in this field. She believes in offering her patients a integrative and holistic approach combining Eastern & Western Medicine.
Dr. May’s other interest include dentistry, preventative medicine and senior care. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Veterinary Acupuncture and the American Association of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine
Dr. May shares her home with her husband, two children, their Golden Doodle “Carl”, her cats, “Butter and Dixie” plus a horse, “Iggy”. The family likes to spend as much time as possible by the water. They enjoy wake boarding, paddle boarding, swimming and anything else that involves the lake or ocean. Even “Carl” loves to go boating and tubing. In honor of their Canadian roots they are avid hockey fans cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Carolina Hurricanes.
